Opportunities & positive peer relationships

The Saturday School is the longest running independent and non-funded Saturday school in Britain. All of the staff, facilitators and helpers are inspired to help young talented people achieve more.Headteacher Dawn Riley says “We provide an opportunity to experience positive relationships with their peers whilst embracing their culture, which helps lessen issues surrounding identity. Learning about positive contributions of their culture enables them to identify positive role models.”

Stuart says “At Inspire You we allow the young people we help to have a perspective that is much broader than the school curriculum. We encourage them to grow in themselves and understand what the real world is about”

Jane says: “I believe that we all have a gift, a talent, a spark, which through education, interest in learning, we lead out into the world. It’s what makes us uniqueand helps us fulfil our potential”

Workshops include How to Upcycle Clothes for Profit, giving people with an eye for design and an interest in fashion, practical ideas and know-how to turn their creative talent into a business. There is also a course to learn How to Restore Classic Cars, so that bodywork and mechanical skills are learnt, developed to help people get a skilled job in the lucrative classic car trade. There are Fitness and Martial Arts sessions and a Saturday School. Plans are in place to equip a room as a Mental Games and Psychology space, supported by Neurofeedback Technology from Birkbeck College.

Inspire You wants to bring on video and film makers and plans to set up a film making and editing suite for all media channels. This will give young people access to rare opportunities to learn about all aspects of making films, including script writing, casting, directing, acting and producing, and gain new skill sets that are transferable to commercial enterprises and businesses.

The kitchen offers practical life skills and work experience and training helpful for a catering and cheffing career.

Inspire You is setting up a Mentors Programme to support young people, both one to one and in small groups, in person and online.

The Inspire You Centre in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton is the first hub of its kind and more will follow in different parts of the UK. This centre of excellence is leased free of charge to Inspire You by Leslie Fairclough's company Higher Level World. Help and sponsorship have been gratefully received from many of Wolverhampton's business and community leaders including Carvers, RCS Furnishings, ACCI, Thompsons AVC, EC Electricals and Tile Choice.
